How we worked these out
The list of colleges
After grants is what each college charges for tuition and fees, housing and food, and books, less the average grant for students who got aid at that income. Both are carried forward to fall 2027. A family with no aid pays close to the full price.
At a public university that price is for students from Washington.
“Over $110,000” has no upper limit, so it averages families just over $110,000 with far wealthier ones. A family at $115,000 should expect to pay less than it shows.
The price after grants already counts the average of every grant families on aid got, including the College Grant. So the grant card shows what the state pays, and the price shows what families paid after all of their grants. Don't subtract one from the other.

For a family from another state
Private colleges and public universities are listed apart, because their prices count different aid.
Private colleges. The government's figure for each takes off every grant its students got, including Washington's College Grant, which only Washington residents get. Below $110,000 it was worth up to $9,739 a year at a private college before the state cut it in 2026-27, and above it up to $974. We can't take it out, because the government doesn't split these prices by where students live. So a family from another state could pay up to that much more.
Public universities. The price is the out-of-state price, before any need-based aid from the college. Up to $48,000 of income, it is less the Pell Grant a family of four gets wherever the student goes ($7,395 a year). A scholarship your student reaches is taken off too; the aid column names them. Eastern Washington University publishes its own estimate for families from the Western Undergraduate Exchange states, and we use it. A public university doesn't publish what its own aid pays students from other states at each income. Its own price calculator gives your figure, and you can enter it on What you can afford.
